About Food Co-ops
A food co-op is a grocery store owned by the community. Food co-ops are working toward the day when everyone has access to the healthy, delicious food they deserve.
Because co-ops are owned by the people in the neighborhood who shop there, the community has a say in the business decisions the cooperative makes. So co-ops focus on what their owners want — nourishing everyone with good food regardless of their budget, providing a welcoming community gathering place, and prioritizing business practices that are good for the local community, the local economy and the planet.
Co-ops celebrate our differences and bring us together to foster community connectedness where everyone is valued and welcome.
National Co+op Grocers (NCG) is a business services cooperative for natural food co-ops throughout the United States. NCG helps unify food co-ops in order to optimize operational and marketing resources, strengthen purchasing power and, ultimately, offer more value to food co-op owners and shoppers everywhere.
NCG and its member food co-ops value, promote, and advocate for:
- Cooperative Business
- Inclusive Economies
- Racial Equity
- Food Justice
- Local Food and Farming
- Organic Certification
- Climate Action
- Environmental Responsibility
- Engaged Citizens, Vibrant Communities
