The Federation of Southern Cooperatives is a cooperative association of Black farmers, landowners and cooperatives. Since 1967, they have been delivering on their mission to be a catalyst for the development of self-supporting communities through cooperative economic development, land retention and advocacy. The Burkett family has been putting down roots in the soil of Petal, Mississippi for 121 years. “I can remember delivering watermelons to the market when I was just a little fella,” says cooperative member, lifetime farmer and farmer advocate Ben Burkett.
